Navigating through the early stages of a career in research can be a challenge. The ACADI Mentoring Program is designed to support PhD candidates and early to mid career researchers in the field of diabetes work together towards their goals and amplify their impact.

As a national virtual collaborative research centre, the ACADI mentoring program will facilitate the sharing of knowledge, career, and leadership guidance through purposeful mentoring relationships.

To be part of the mentoring program, as a mentee you must be placed at an ACADI Core or Other Partner organisation.

Having a mentor can be a powerful tool. Mentors can have an impact on your career development, professional development, leadership development and provide general support to help you reach your potential.

ACADI will purposefully match mentees with experienced professionals as their mentors. Receive personalised guidance to help identify and develop a career strategy, enhance your impact, and increase your professional networks.

About the Program

The program will run from May to November 2024, and requires mentor and mentee pairs to meet five times during the mentoring period.

Mentees will receive an online training session from experienced leadership consultants, Serendis Leadership, on how to create an impactful mentoring experience.

The program closes with a celebratory event in Melbourne, and the opportunity to attend the ACADI Annual Partnering Summit. Travel and accommodation will be paid for.

  • Facilitated mentee training: Wednesday 30 April 11:00am – 1:00pm AEST (online event)
  • Facilitated midpoint check in: Wednesday 6 August, 10:00am – 12:00pm AEST (online event)
  • Celebratory event to finish the program: Thursday 13 November 2025

Becoming a mentor gives you the opportunity to continue your professional development, create new connections, and meet some of the brightest new minds in diabetes research from across the country.

As a mentor, through one-on-one conversations, you could help a mentee to gain the confidence and clarity to navigate their academic and professional journeys.

The ACADI Mentoring Program gives you the opportunity to enhance your coaching and leadership skills, pay forward some of the advice learned throughout your career, and make a meaningful difference to your profession.
